Transitioning Schools

1st to 2nd Grade Transition

Each spring, the elementary school staff and students work together to coordinate a tour around the elementary school building, for students who will be going into 2nd grade. Before the tour, the counselor and principal visit each 1st grade classroom to introduce themselves and read a story. During the tour, the older elementary school students take the upcoming 2nd graders around the school to show them all of the main places they will need to go. We hope to ease some of the anxiety associated with moving to a new school. This tour gives students the opportunity to walk through the building and allow the students to see a typical school day in the elementary school, while answering any questions they may have.

5th to 6th Grade Transition

Each spring, the middle school and intermediate elementary school staff work together to coordinate a series of activities to introduce the middle school to fifth-grade students.  We hope to ease some of the anxiety associated with moving to a new school.  During the late spring, all fifth-grade students will visit the middle school. This orientation gives the students an opportunity to walk through the middle school with seventh-grade tour guides and introduces the students to a typical middle school day.  Middle school counselors also visit the fifth-grade students in their classrooms to talk about middle school and answer their many questions.
