Meet the Principals

Jena Funck began her duties as the Elementary Principal for Grades K-5 with the 2019-2020 school year.

Prior to the 2019-2020 school year, Jena served as the assistant principal for the Primary Elementary school, a role she assumed at the beginning of the 2014-2015 school year. Jena has been with Derry Township, starting as a 5th grade teacher in 2007.  Jena holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and special education from Millersville University.  She received a master’s degree in educational administration from Temple University.  She also holds a reading specialist certificate along with her K-12 principal certification. Prior to teaching in Derry Township, she had experiences teaching special education, instructional support, and 5th grade at a neighboring school district.

She is a certified regional trainer for the nationally recognized professional development program, Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS) and believes in the importance of teaching the whole child and that as a community of families and educators, we can come together to ensure the success of each child.

Heidi Stine joined the Derry Township School District as the Assistant Principal for the Early Childhood Center school in November of 2019. 

Ms. Stine obtained her bachelor’s degree in health and physical education from Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania. She also minored in coaching as well as sport and exercise psychology. Ms. Stine received her master’s degree in teaching and curriculum through Penn State University as well as her K-12 principal certification.

Prior to coming to Derry Township, Ms. Stine taught health and physical education at Lower Dauphin School District and coached high school and middle school volleyball as well as K-2 basketball. During the summer she worked with K-12 students at Milton Hershey School in their Year Round Experience program for eight years. Ms. Stine also ran Lower Dauphin’s Summer Reading Academy and Jumpstart reading programs for two years.

Kelly Lombel serves as the Assistant Principal for the Primary Elementary school, a role she assumed at the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year.

Mrs. Lombel obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from East Stroudsburg University with a minor in special education. She received her master’s degree in urban education and special education certification from Alvernia University. She also obtained my K-12 principal certification from Alvernia University. She's currently working on her doctorate degree in educational leadership at East Stroudsburg University. 

Prior to coming to Derry Township, Mrs. Lombel taught fourth grade at Pottsville Area School District for 17 years. During my free time, she coached cross country and track and field at Pottsville Area High School.

Anna Gawel serves as the Assistant Principal for the Intermediate Elementary school, a role she assumed at the beginning of the 2014-2015 school year.

Dr. Gawel obtained her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Music from Marywood University. Mrs. Gawel has been with Derry Township School District since the 2003-2004 school year. She has worked as a First Grade Teacher and a Kindergarten through 8th grade Technology Instructional Coach. During that time she obtained a Masters Degree from Millersville University in Language/Literacy and a Kindergarten through 12th grade Reading Specialist certification.

Dr. Gawel also obtained her Kindergarten through 12th grade Principal Certification from Penn State University. During her time with the district, Anna assisted with technology integration in the classroom, faculty trainings, instructional design and curriculum development. She is continually looking for new ways to enrich the learning community every day.
